berenice sydney
"abstract forms"
hand signed and dated 1967
large oil on canvas
182cm x 167cm
Berenice Sydney was a self-taught British artist whose dramatic abstracts took the art world by storm in the 1960's and 70s. Her work is displayed in many galleries, including Tate Britain.
This impressive oil is rendered with a vibrant palette in bold brushstrokes. Its fearless gestural quality is achieved with impetuously applied impasto. The composition is vital, the strokes emanating outwards from a central point. This work reflects the artist's temperament - an expansive expression of emotion.
This work comes with various letters and documents written by the artist. Its large size makes it a painting that is best viewed in the flesh.
