vintage 1950s "elisabeth" u-56 chair
ib kofod larsen for christensen & larsen
teak and leather

W 80cm, D 74cm, H 70cm

A rare design classic, the Elisabeth chair was designed in 1956 and exhibited at the Copenhagen Cabinet Makers' Guild Exibition in the same year. This is an early example.

The luxurious, distinctive shape of the seat and sculpted, embracing arms make this chair a striking adornment to any interior.

Kofod Larsen's most celebrated achievement, the curved frame, perfectly executed joins and angled dowelling are the work of a master craftsman.

Subtly reconditioned, the original black leather with minor patina consistent with age, the teak a rich golden colour.

The back padding is slightly compressed by use but the comfort provided by this chair is unaffected.

The original webbing is intact, firm and in good condition, the teak frame absolutely sound. The leather has no tears or holes.

A remnant of the original paper label is affixed to the underside, slightly yellowed by age.
